In the title compound, C26H23NO2, the dihedral angles between the pyrrole ring and the two phenyl rings are 58.1 (6) and 71.5 (5)°. The mean planes of the 5-methyl-benzene ring and the carboxyl group are twisted by 89.5 (3) and 22.1 (9)°, respectively, from the pyrrole ring. In the crystal, weak C-H⋯O inter-actions lead to supra-molecular layers in the ab plane.

In the crystal structure, mol-ecules are linked through N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds into chains extending along the a axis.

Acetylation with acetic anhydride of methyl 5-amino-1H-[1,2,4]triazole-3-carboxylate, one of the hetareneamino acids, was studied using HPLC, H NMR, FTIR and GC-MS. The compound has a significantly decreased susceptibility to acetylation compared to 5-amino-1H-[1,2,4]triazole itself. Two isomeric diacetylated products were found.
